About the UT Paralegal Certificate Program
The University of Tennessee Paralegal Certificate Program has established itself as one of the premier paralegal programs in the nation.
Designed by paralegals for paralegals, and taught by attorneys, it is an intensive, comprehensive, skills based 17-week program.
The paralegal program creators, Alyssa Navallo and Daniel Barber, both paralegals and nationally recognized educators, have designed paralegal programs that for over a decade have been offered at prestigious universities across the country.
“Our goal was to design the kind of paralegal program that we would have liked to have taken,” says Navallo, co-creator, paralegal, and special advisor to a prominent litigation and defense firm. “The materials are constantly updated so that the information and skills students are learning go along with the demands of the profession.
“We understand that most students are taking this program as a career change or a vehicle to advance in the profession, thus the support mechanisms provided, and program curriculum, have been developed with the working student in mind,” Navallo adds.
Offered in Two Formats
The UT Paralegal Certificate Program is offered in Knoxville and Nashville in two formats: as an on-campus evening course, and nationally, as an online self-paced program with your own attorney instructor to guide you throughout the process. Upon successful completion, students earn a Certificate in Paralegal Studies.
The curriculum trains students in the aspects of paralegalism most in demand.
In addition to the core paralegal program, students take substantive courses such as tort, contract, and business law.
Online Support
Students also have access to an exclusive communications and study support portal, ParalegalSpace.com. This platform enables students to effectively and efficiently make the most use out of their study time.
Students have access to online lecture notes, interactive exercises, mock exams, and writing labs which provide instructor comments and assistance.
Students receive in-class and online instruction on both LexisNexis and Westlaw which are valuable research tools. They also have access to the Lexis and Westlaw labs, which instruct students on the methods of electronic legal research even as they are logged on to the site.
The UT Paralegal Certificate Program is a skill-based educational experience because it is the skills that will get you hired, and make you an excellent paralegal!
