Division recognized for excellence in Web site design

The Division of University Outreach & Continuing Education has been selected winner of the Learning Resources Network's 2009 award for Internet Home Page.

UOCE was specifically recognized for its Smoky Mountain Field School and Kids U Web sites. Both sites were created for UT's Department of Professional & Personal Development (PPD).

The award will be officially announced at LERN's annual conference in San Francisco on Nov. 16-18.

Art director Karen Alley created the Field School site, which also won LERN's award for Internet Home Page two years ago.

The Kids U site was a group effort that resulted in the Division incorporating closed-captioned video clips into a Web page for the first time. Piggybacking off the popularity of YouTube.com, the division's new multimedia team developed a fun site called "Kids U Tube" to promote its 2008 courses.

Persons contributing to the project include Alley, Jennifer Bennett, Darrin Devault, Ric Lichtwardt, Greg Schweiger, Terry Trivette, and Maddie Brown.

"With the number of award nominations submitted, the judges indicated that judging was very competitive this year, and it was difficult selecting the winner," says Christopher Olson of LERN.

LERN is the leading training and consulting service for lifelong learning programs with more than 4,000 members in 16 countries.
