Hardware:

Taking the NJATC course(s) requires that you have access to certain hardware and software. The following is a list of the hardware requirements.

  • A PC-compatible computer with a Pentium 133 or better 
  • Microsoft Windows 95 or better
  • At least 64 megabytes installed RAM memory 
  • 20 megabytes of available (a.k.a. "free") hard disk storage
  • A tested 33.6 kbps Internet (TCP/IP) connection without firewall restrictions. 56 kbps or better recommended.
  • Users of America Online, please note: This software has been tested with AOL Version 5.0 and 6.0. After loading the Authorware Web Player, you may see a blank screen when selecting the “Workbook” button at www.njatc.utk.edu. If so, check your Windows' Task Bar (usually located at the bottom of your screen) for a new minimized window. By clicking the appropriate minimized window, you will discover a futuristic screen that is the workbook material you need.
  • MIME-compliant email capable of sending and receiving attachments as large as 5 megabytes. Microsoft Outlook 98 or Outlook Express preferred, but not required.
  • Access to a phone line for emergency technical support (in addition to any phone line required for your internet connection)

Required Software: 

  • Web Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer, Version 5 
  • A software add-in to the web browser (“Authorware Web Player” plugin) is required for access to the online course materials and must be installed  prior to first use.
