Vertebrate Zoology (Grades 4-7, rising)
Join us for a fascinating look at the world of zoology: the scientific study of animals. In this five-day camp, you’ll explore the biology and diversity of vertebrates–animals with backbones. You’ll explore the incredible variation in feeding, locomotion, appearance and habitats of fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. This camp includes observing animals both in their natural habitats and in the lab. In addition, you’ll take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Knoxville Zoo. On Friday, we’ll meet at the Knoxville Zoo entrance. Instructors: Morgan Douglas and Riley Bernard.

Veterinary Medicine: Behind The Scenes
(Grades 9-12, rising)

In a camp conducted by a licensed veterinary technician, with presentations by faculty and staff, you’ll learn about small and large animal practice, avian, exotic and wildlife medicine. In addition, you’ll learn about animal behavior, anatomy and how diseases are diagnosed, and much, much more! You’ll learn about the variety of roles a veterinarian can play, plus how to prepare for the many career choices in veterinary medicine. Limit: 12 students. Instructor: Janet Jones.

Observing Animals! An Introduction to Ethology (Grades 7-9, rising)
Animals do many amazing things: they forage, communicate, play and learn. Have you ever wondered how scientists study animal behavior? In this course you’ll become an ethologist (an animal behavior scientist) by observing live animals and conducting experiments to determine why animals do what they do. Snakes Alive! Hands-On Herpetology
(Grades 4-7, rising)

You’ll study reptiles and amphibians, including where they live, unique characteristics and behavior. The course includes lots of live animals! Plus, we’ll explore scenarios for the future of these fascinating creatures, including problems of predation, over hunting and habitat destruction.
