Green Development: Good for Water and the Bottom Line

Tom Biebighauser

Tom Biebighauser has restored more than 1,000 wetlands in 10 states and one Canadian Province.

He enjoys leading hands-on workshops where participants learn about wetlands by actually constructing a wetland; having taught these workshops in Alabama, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and British Columbia.

In 2003, he wrote the book A Guide to Creating Vernal Ponds in cooperation with Ducks Unlimited, Inc. and the Izaak Walton League of America, distributing more than 31,900 copies to date. His latest book Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair was released in July by the University Press of Kentucky.

He finds it rewarding to repair wetlands that have failed, and to assist land managers who are initiating wetland restoration programs. Tom has helped hundreds of teachers build wetlands at schools for use as outdoor classrooms and for treating runoff. His passion for wetland restoration has been recognized by three National Awards.
