Susannah Shumate

Susannah Shumate is the Executive Director of the Nashville Civic Design Center. As the Executive Director, Susannah is responsible for general administration, fundraising, marketing, and public relations for the organization.

Prior to joining the Center, she was the Associate Director at Hands On Nashville. As Associate Director, Susannah was responsible for aligning interdepartmental and organizational functions and leading the organization through an executive transition.

Before Hands On Nashville, Susannah worked at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee for six years, where she served as Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations. During her tenure at Second Harvest, Susannah’s responsibilities included advocacy, community relations, food drive management, food-raising events, fundraising, government relations, marketing, media relations, public relations, and volunteer program management.

Susannah holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Rhodes College in Memphis and Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Management from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

Susannah is the Immediate Past President of the Volunteer Administrators’ Network (VAN) and is an active member of the American Planning Association and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of Hands On Nashville and the Skyline North Area Business Council of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.  Shumate is also a Founding Member of the Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee.
