
Gary Hawkins
Gary is a founding Principal in the landscape architectural firm, Hawkins Partners, Inc. based in historic downtown Nashville.
Gary is a landscape architect and urban designer recognized for his work to integrate placemaking and sustainable solutions into each design opportunity. His was educated at the University of Tennessee and holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Louisiana State University.
In 1986, Gary co-founded Hawkins Partners with his wife, Kim. The firm celebrated its twentieth anniversary in 2006. Together, they direct an award winning design studio of twelve professionals now recognized across the Southeast for creative and sustainable land planning and landscape architectural solutions. Gary is professionally licensed in 11 states.
Notable regional commissions have included the Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Nature Preserve, renovation of the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge, development of Metro Davidson County’s Parks and Greenways Master Plan, the county-wide Bikeway and Pedestrian Master Planning for the cities of Memphis, Chattanooga, and Nashville/Davidson County.
Familiar urban Nashville commissions include the Schermerhorn Symphony Hall site, the Gulch Area Streetscapes and the Metro Nashville Public Square. Recent planning efforts include the Nashville’s Riverfront Master Plan.
Gary serves as a commissioner for Metro Nashville’s Historic Zoning Commission and periodically lectures and participates in design panel discussions related to Hawkins Partners’ landscape architectural practice.
